Initiatives
There are many areas of need surrounding the stabilization, restoration, and upkeep of this historic building. Below is a selection of the many projects that lie ahead, some with estimated costs that have only increased as the years have passed. The Friends of Pleasant Vale Church are grateful for donations of volunteer time, effort, and funding toward these and other projects on this cherished property.
The repair of the old four-octave, 12-stop, foot-pumped organ. It is made of walnut and oak and has knee pedals. It needs a full restoration.
Estimated cost to repair: $25,000.
Repair and patching of the original 1845 six paneled entrance doors (3) with divided transoms. The original iron box latch locks are present and need attention. Door head and sills need to be reset and hinges need to be remounted.
Estimated cost to repair: $10,000.
The replacement of the side entrance (originally for unmarried mothers and slaves)original wood sill that had become rotted.
Completed: $650
Waterproof and replace façia boards at springline. Remove roof and protect, expose deck and inspect, install Ice and Watershield at perimeter. All sides.

Scraping, painting, and caulking of the original glazing of all windows.
Estimated cost to repair: $15,000
Cleaning and polishing of all pews and lecterns.
Estimated cost to repair: $7,000
The structural inspection and stabilization of the ‘choir’ balcony.

Scraping, sanding, prime and painting of all wood surfaces with low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints.

Patch and repair of all original trowel applied plasters on walls and ceilings, and paint.

Assorted groundskeeping, mowing and maintenance projects.
